Apple is known for introducing new and improved gadgets as fast as Angelina Jolie is known for adopting children, and once again Apple has a new toy for us consumers. Some students might remember way back in the day when Apple came out with the iPod Mini: a smaller version of the regular iPod with a monochrome screen. The new iPod Nano has a very similar design to that of the Mini was announced at Tuesday's "Let's Rock" event in California.

The new Nano features a more sleek design, with a curved glass display and a feature that should grab most people's attention, a bigger screen. Apple has done a very good job in using the Nano's front panel for the click-wheel and the bigger screen, allowing for the entire front to have as much used space as possible.

Walking around campus, students had mixed feelings about the new design. The Nano this time around is very similar to the music player Zune because of its taller frame. "I like the longer screen, but I don't like that it's very similar to the Zune," states Terry Wright, a sophomore and Apple fanatic. "I find it odd that Apple is copying Microsoft, even though Microsoft originally copied Apple when the Zune was introduced."

Wright knows that the similarities between the two won't cause much of a distraction to the consumers, because the bigger screen is what will attract the public into buying a Nano. A bigger screen makes it much easier to watch movies and music videos and that's exactly what the general public wants when it comes to an iPod.

Melanie Russell, a sophomore, on the other hand, disagrees with Wright. "I believe that Apple shouldn't go back to earlier models of the iPod, but working in perfecting a newer design." Russell does have a point, because it would be nice to see a new design and maybe even a drop in price.

Ryan Hargreaves, a junior, has a similar view as Russell's. Hargreaves states, "We have all been introduced to improved designs from Apple, but it is time for the public to see a much newer design." Though that would be nice, it is unlikely that Apple will introduce a completely new design that takes away the trademark of the iPod.
