Lynn Pasquerella Becomes New Provost

Pasquerella has also been a full-time Professor of Philosophy, the Associate Dean of the Graduate School and the Interim Vice Provost for Research, Graduate Studies and Outreach, all at the University of Rhode Island. While at the University of Rhode Island, she was a member of many different committees that made recommendations and changes to the practices of the campus. She graduated from Mount Hoyoke College with her Bachelor's of the Arts, magna cum laude, and from Brown University with a Ph.D.
She has published a number of books and been a part of a variety of research projects in different fields. Pasquerella has also participated in numerous lectures and workshops, including many about ethical standards and practices. She has been a member of five different New England Association of Schools and Colleges evaluations of universities in the area.
Pasquerella has been the recipient of a variety of grants, both teaching related and research related. Her most recent research related grant was from the National Science Foundation, for the Northeast Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professorate. She has also done a variety of community service programs, including a variety of work at the Day Kimball Hospital in recent years.
Pasquerella was chosen from among four final candidates. The other three candidates were: Jay A. Harper of Rowan University, Interim Provost Joseph C. Voelker and David G. Woods Dean of Fine Arts at UConn. The four candidates went through a indepth interview process with faculty, staff and students.
Harrison and the executive board unanimously chose Pasquerlla as the next Provost. According to Harrison, the final choice was between Pasquerella and Voelker.
According to the letter from Harrison to the Board of Regents, "In Lynn Pasquerella, however, I believe we have found absolutely the right person to lead the academic enterprise of the University at this point in our history. She brings superb credentials as a scholar and teacher, a first rate intellect and a finely honed sense of values, great administrative experience, leadership on the national level in graduate studies, and a demonstrated record of success in attracting and maintaining research support and funding."
