Removal of Article from Web Site Disappointing 11

The Tripod, Trinity College (CT), Hartford, CT

15 minutes ago by Claire Nasuti

I am extremely disappointed that The Trinity Tripod took down the article David Kimball-Stanley '09 and Ryan Haney '10 wrote in response to the article Whitney Duprey '09 wrote on the fraternities. If, as the Tripod Web site claims, there had been a personal attack in the article, then why did they agree to publish it in the first place? A lot of the article dealt with issues and ideas that could not even be construed as personal attacks; why, then, did the Tripod not ask to just cut a few sentences? Not to mention the fact that there have been much more offensive personal attacks in the Tripod and on the Tripod Web site, many of them written by anonymous contributors.

Stop-Loss Protest Unpersuasive, Futile 9

The Daily Campus, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT

It was interesting to read about the Students for a Democratic Society's "Funk the War" protest in The Daily Campus on Friday. Apparently the only thing that got less attention than the release of the MTV movie Stop-Loss, was the fact that a bunch of college students served the members of the House of Representatives and the Senate with stop-loss notices telling them they were not to leave their posts (go on vacation, visit family, etc.

When walking through the mass of students moving hastily through Franklin Dining Common to get a quick bite to eat, it becomes easy to ignore certain things. Forgetting to pick up a dropped fork, leaving a tray abandoned on a cafeteria table, or ignoring a drink accidentally spilled becomes commonplace in the mid-morning rush to class.

Well, this is it - graduation. Given the economy, I can look forward to getting no jobs with my UConn degree. But at least my alma mater taught me to drink. Cheers, UConn.

You know that statistic they teach you on orientation where one of the people sitting next to you won't graduate? It's true, just ask my buddy who sat to my right.

At this point in the races, Barack Obama remains in the lead of the Democratic primaries, with 1,845 pledged delegates and 257 super delegates. Hilary Clinton has 1,686 delegates and 267 super delegates. These are the cold, hard numbers that underlie every last little ounce of speculation and hype America's news apparatus churns out.

Evolution and the Word "Theory"

Statesman, SUNY Stony Brook, NY

3 days ago by Michael Giardinello

The theory of evolution is arguably the most misunderstood theory in all of science. In a recent poll conducted by USA Today, it was found that almost half of Americans (47%) believe that evolution is either definitely or probably not true. But almost all scientists (95%) believe the theory to be either definitely or most likely true.

Rape Victims' Fear Contributes To Secrecy

Statesman, SUNY Stony Brook, NY

2 days ago by Arielle Brechisci

Eva Feldman's daughter waited 72 hours to report to campus police that she had been raped in her dorm room at Indiana University. She waited four more days to tell her parents. "I didn't want to make daddy cry," was her daughter's reason.

Her behavior is typical of rape victims, who delay reporting their attacks, if they ever do, for many reasons including shame, fear, guilt and a flawed judicial system.
